This session is designed for complete beginners as well as those who already play other stringed instruments…. and we guarantee that by the end of this session you WILL be playing the mandolin. Starting with a brief history of the mandolin, a short introduction to various styles of mandolins and music, students will learn about basic technique and to play-and perform- one or two melodies with chords.

Tutor: Barbara Pommerenke-Steel - The co-founder and musical director of the Lanarkshire Guitar and Mandolin Association, Barbara is a university graduate in music and in addition has a diploma in mandolin teaching. She currently works as a music class teacher in South Lanarkshire and is the mandolin tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She has designed, developed and delivered a wide range of music courses and is the lead tutor for mandolin workshops at the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow. Barbara is currently the conductor of “Da Capo Alba” orchestra and the chairperson of the British BMG (Banjo Mandolin and Guitar) Federation.
