T18 Songs from the Movies

5-days from Sat 6th to Wed 10th April - 4:30pm

Merchiston Courses - Classroom Space

Featuring popular songs from classic and current movies including The Greatest Showman, the new A Star is Born, The Twilight films, Disney and more, this course will focus on teaching the melodies as well as using recognisable motifs or ‘hooks’ from the film music to create unique harp arrangements to complement the songs.  Learn how to use chords and chord patterns, how to create interesting bridges and links, and incorporate rhythm.  It is not necessary to be a singer since these pieces will stand up as melodic performance pieces arranged for the harp, but those who like to sing and learn to accompany themselves are also welcome on this course.

Tutor: Irene Watt - Irene is a singer, harper, workshop leader and an educationalist. She has a PhD in Ethnomusicology and Folklore and teaches and lecturers for The Elphinstone Institute at Aberdeen University as well as the North East Hub of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
