Corinna Hewat

Merchiston Courses - Classroom Space

5 Day Course (Saturday to Wednesday)

Puirt à beul (literally “tunes of the mouth”) are wonderfully rhythmic expressive tunes with complex patterns replicating the rhythm of dance tunes. The rhythm and sound often have more importance than the depth or meaning of the words. We will not attempt to learn or sing the words but rather will focus on the feel of the tunes - the rhythm, the speed, adding damping and incorporating the ornamentation as best we can on the harp to add some fast, short, fun tunes to our repertoire.
